            Unemployment is the major issue in shipping industry now a days.. Not only fresh deck cadets and TME's..... Even people with COC are struggling these days....Job sectors, 75% hijacked by agents / middle men......and company offices up to an extend is a new history in shipping. Even companies rejecting people whom they have given sponsorship earlier...... There was an incident happened recently, an young engineer who had completed his pre sea training from a prestigious institution located in Kerala committed suicide. He was a sponsored candidate from a very famous shipping company and they didn't give him a ship for 3 long years waiting after his pre sea training....These category of candidates are tortured mentally by the shipping companies...... Spending lot of money and time behind this profession and not getting job making a serious issue and dangerous situation.... Majority people completed their studies by taking education loan.. Seafarers have been the unsung heroes of this pandemic, as the world relies on them to transport more than 80% of trade by volume, including vital food and medical goods, energy and raw materials, as well as manufactured goods across the globe. They have also been collateral victims of the crisis, as travel restrictions have left tens of thousands of them stranded on ships, or unable to join ships. The difficulties surrounding repatriation and crew changes also have a major impact on the shipping industry and have been identified as a priority issue, with IMO and other organizations urging governments to intervene. The matter has been taken up by the UN Secretary-General, who expressed his concern about the growing humanitarian and safety crisis facing seafarers around the world, and called on all countries to formally designate seafarers and other marine personnel as “key workers” and ensure crew changeovers can safely take place.
